Film: Jhankaar Beats
Year of release: 2003
Spoken by: Rishi (Rahul Bose) later by Mr. Kapoor (Vijayendra Ghatge)
Spoken to: Mr Roy (Dinyar Contractor)
Dialogue writer: Milap Zaveri, Sujoy Ghosh, Suresh Nair
Deep (Sanjay Suri) and Rishi are copywriters in an ad agency. They have to come up with a punchline for a condom brand owned by Mr Roy. The duo has not worked on it at all and goes into the meeting unprepared. When they have to present the line, on the spur of the moment, Rishi comes up with this line.
"sir, hamne bahut socha. samjha, aur phir, samajh kar socha. aur phir is one liner ko soch samajh kar banaya" ... Then he tries all kinds of tricks to delay. Finally he reveals,
"The one-liner for your product, is..."
"Haa.n... mujhe... ye... pasand hai"
"हाँ ...मुझे... ये... पसंद है"
Later they get a dressing down from their boss Mr Kapoor, who tells them
"Haa.n mujhe ye pasand hai...Roy ko to pasand nahiin aayaa...aur mujhe to bilkul pasand nahiin aayaa"
For some strange reason, this line too has become a cult line. So whenever, you are not sure about something, but feel pressurised to praise it, use this line. But use it with the same pauses as in the original (indicated by the use of ellipses...).
At the end of the film, they do get the line right. That is
"Better safe, than worry".
I have to say, I do not know about M/s Roy and Kapoor. I liked the earlier one better.
