I rarely feature English dialogues or rather dialogues from Hollywood films, but I liked this one so much, that I had to feature it.
Structural specialist Breslin breaks out of prisons to verify their security. Kind of like an ethical hacker. He is framed and put into a prison which is located on a huge ship. He and his prison mate (Arnold Schwarzzeneger) plan an escape. According to Breslin, there are three basic rules for an escape - knowing the layout; observing the routine; and getting internal or external support for the getaway.
After a careful study of all the masked guards, Breslin has figured out the routine to a certain extent. Now he is planning on seeking the 'good' doctor's help to figure out their current location.
Their first attempt fails. So does the second. But in the third attempt, Breslin is successful in convincing the doctor that he is the man who wrote a book on security in correctional facilities. Once he realises that, Dr Kyrie delivers this short monologue. It's brilliant. If only more doctors acknowledged this.
"Doctors are men, who prescribe medicines of which they know little, to cure diseases of which they know less, for men of whom they know nothing at all. What do you want me to do?"
The part that I like the most in this line is that they know 'nothing at all' about the patients. Yet they are so cocksure all the time.
