Dialogue writer: Pt Sudarshan
Sohrab Modi was known for his dialogue delivery. He was the Raaj Kumar of that era. This is the introductory scene of Porus in the movie.
The spy or guptchar comes rushing on a horse to tell Porus that the armies of Alexander have reached the banks of Vitastaa or Jhelum.
Porus asks,
"kitni sena hai"
"ek laakh se zyaadaa"
"aur maharaj Aambhii (king of Takshila) ne use rokne ka yatan nahin kiya?
"maine suna hai ki unhone haar maanne kaa faislaa kar liyaa hai"
"yaani aag ne paani ka naam sunte hi apne shole bujha diye! Sunaa Rajkumaar Pravir?
"wo shayad chaahte hain ki Sikandar ki madad lekar hamaare raajya par hamla karen"
Porus peremptorily dismisses the plans of King Aambhi (played by KN Singh of eyebrows fame) with this pejorative line,
"jiske paas apnii shakti nahin, use bhagvaan bhi shakti nahii.n de saktaa"
"जिसके पास अपनी शक्ति नहीं, उसे भगवान भी शक्ति नहीं दे सकता"
So true, God's help those who help themselves. So believe in yourself and your strength. Or else, remember Sohrab Modi's line from this classic.
