This
Netflix film was based on the 2006 Nithari killings. It is a very gory and gruesome
movie. If you are even slightly squeamish, avoid this film. The film begins by
showing the villain and serial killer Prem (Vikrant Massey) watching KBC and
showing us that he knows the answers to questions. Then he takes a call from
his pregnant wife and talks very lovingly with her. Right after the call he
picks up a couple of choppers and knives and goes on to hack a 15 year old school
girl’s body. The film immediately segues into showing his adversary, Sub
Inspector Ram Charan Pandey (Deepak Dobriyal) who starts with a 3 minute monologue.
In the monologue he establishes that the Newtonian 3rd law of motion
is the greatest principle of the world. A principle that is universally
applicable. He says that in the Indian context, this principle takes the quaint
form of what is called the system. He says you cannot fight the system, the
system always wins. He ends the monologue by telling a distraught Sabyasachi
Mandal (who’s daughter is missing) that

He is thus established as a
corrupt and cynical police officer who believes it is futile to do the right
thing. Later in the story, he himself becomes a warrior against the system,
when the criminal hits too close to home.
It’s a good film. But don’t
watch if you are squeamish.
