Mere rules koi nahii.n toD saktaa...mai.n bhi nahii.n

Film: Dhoom
Year of release: 2004
Spoken by: Kabir (John Abraham)
Spoken to: Rahul (Aarav Chowdhury)
Dialogue writer: Vijay Krishna Acharya

Typical cops and robbers movie featuring Suzuki Hayabusa bikes as the star. Very ironic dialogue this. Why I will tell you at the end.

The gang of robbers work as waiters and delivery boys in a restaurant (as a front). After one successful heist, Rahul comes to the gang's den with a shiny new red car (Honda CR-X del sol). All the gang members appreciate the vehicle.
Kabir indicates that he wants to take it out on a spin with Rahul.
As they approach a cliff, Kabir tells Rahul to jump off. A startled Rahul does that. A moment later, Kabir jumps off the car as well. The brand new car hurtles down the cliff and gets destroyed.

The entire gang is gobsmacked. Rahul asks Kabir why he did that.
Kabir lights a cigarette and with swag says the following:

"tum bahut lucky ho Rahul. Us gaaDi mein tum bhi ho sakte the.
ek waiter ke paas aisi gaaDii.
ham chor hain...dhuyen ki tarah hava mein gaayab ho jaate hain
jis din police ko aag dikh gayi ...it's all over..."

And then comes the punch line.

"mere rules koi nahin toD saktaa...main bhi nahin"
"मेरे रूल्ज़ कोई नहीं तोड़ सकता, मैं भी नहीं"

It's a great line for a leader to use in any situation when he sets the right example. Say, the CEO of a company who has asked his staff to tighten the belt, finds that his secretary has booked him onto a business class seat. He can call and have that converted into Economy and use this line.

Now let me tell you what's ironic about this line (from the perspective of this movie).

The bike used by Kabir in the movie is a Suzuki Hayabusa. That would cost around Rs 14 lacs at current prices. The closes equivalent to the red Honda car would be a Honda Civic. That would cost around Rs 16 lacs at current prices. Whatever happened to the concept of "jis din police ko aag dikh gayi...it's all over"!

Though I think most cops would tend to look at a car as more expensive as compared to even the costliest bikes.

That can be the only explanation for this faux pas. Otherwise, one can only remember the famous line of one of our politicians -

"Hypocrisy ki bhi seema hoti hai"
"हिपॉक्रिसी की भी सीमा होती है"
