Steering ek hi haath me rahe ye achchhaa hai

Film: Daddy
Year of release: 2017
Spoken by: Maqsood (Farhan Akhtar)
Spoken to: Rama Naik (Rajesh Shringapore)
Dialogue writer: Ritesh Shah

Farhan Akhtar makes a cameo appearance in this film to play a character that is thought to be based on Dawood Ibrahim. Maqsood meets other smaller dons in an Eid feast. While having food, he proposes to start supply of cocaine in Rama and Arun's (Arjun Rampal) area. He offers them a 25% cut on the proceeds. While he is making the proposal, Rama looks at Arun, who glares back disapprovingly. After making his proposal, Maqsood looks at Rama and asks,
"Bolo Rama?"
Rama again looks up at Arun. Maqsood notices this and plays a dirty trick to manipulate Rama. He makes a suggestion that Rama is not in control. How does he do that? With this well crafted line.
"dekho dosti sahi hai apni jagah. Lekin...steering ek hi haath mein rahe, ye achchhaa hai"
"देखो दोस्ती सही है अपनी जगह. लेकिन...स्टीयरिंग एक ही हाथ में रहे, ये अच्छा है."
It works instantly. Rama extends his hand and says,
"Done hai bhaai"
Try this line when you are negotiating with two partners of equal heft.

sach hotaa kyaa hai. harek kaa apnaa apnaa version hotaa hai sach kaa

Film : Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Year of release : 2011
Spoken by : Salman (Naseeruddin Shah)
Spoken to : Imran (Farhan Akhtar)
Dialogue writer : Farhan Akhtar

Imran learns after his 'father's' death that his biological father is a painter who lives abroad. He obviously has a desire to meet him and ask him why he never tried to contact him all these years.

He finally meets him in a strange situation, where he calls Salman to bail out his two friends and him after a pub brawl. When they finally get to be alone with each other, Imran asks Salman the question that has been bothering him.

Salman says that he often wondered that what would he tell him.

'ki tumse kahoongaa kyaa?'

Imran asks him to tell him the truth. (sach kahiye)

Salman sniggers contemptuously and comes up with this gem

"sach hotaa kyaa hai. harek kaa apnaa apnaa version hotaa hai sach kaa"

"सच होता क्या है. हरेक का अपना अपना वर्शन होता है सच का"

yaa to dosti gehri hai, yaa ye photo 3D hai

Film : Dil Chaahta Hai
Year of release : 2001
Spoken by : Sameer (Saif Ali Khan)
Spoken to : Pooja (Sonali Kulkarni)
Dialogue writer : Farhan Akhtar

Sameer is against arranged marriages. But his parents have called over a family home and want him to meet the daughter Pooja for a possible alliance.

His father asks him to take Pooja into his room. Pooja's father also agrees to this proposal. And the both of them land up in Sameer's room. He doesn't know how to deal with her. So he shows her a framed photo featuring him and two of his friends.

"ye aakaash hai aur ye sid."

A polite Pooja responds with

"gehri dostii lagtii hai"

Sameer responds with a line which has now been established as classic Farhan Akhtar humour. At that time it might have been denounced just as a PJ (a poor joke).

"haa.n yaa to dosti gehri hai, yaa ye photo 3D hai"
"हां, या तो दोस्ती गहरी है, या ये फ़ोटो 3D है"
